A LITTLE NOTE CAN LIGHTEN A HEAVY DAY
Each year on a day like this, the world pauses to shed light on something we all share but rarely talk about enough, which is our mental health.
At Not Just Pulp, we’ve seen how the power of small gestures can carry someone through a difficult moment; because it simply reminded them that someone cared.
A kind message, or simple uplifting words like “You are stronger than your bad days.” can make the same difference as a grand action would, and become a lifeline for someone going through a difficult time.
A day like this creates space for compassion, awareness, and genuine connection. It is also a day to check in with ourselves and others, and remember that mental health is part of our shared humanity.
SIMPLE ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE ON WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
Here are a few intentional actions you can carry out on this day:
-
DIGITAL DETOX HOUR: Try staying away from screens by switching off your phone for at least one hour, to reconnect with your surroundings. Utilize the time to either read, journal, take a short walk, or simply sit in silence. It helps to ease stress, bring clarity and gain control over your emotions.
-
CHECK-IN CALLS: You can seize the opportunity to place a call across to a loved one, who has been quiet and distant. A simple “How have you been?” or “I thought of you today” can mean more to the person than you realize.
-
AFFIRMATION WRITING: Practice affirmation writing by replacing self-limiting thoughts with Positive ones. Write down positive affirmations that remind you of your worth and strength, and also share them with someone who needs a bit of encouragement as kindness spreads when you give it away.
-
WELLNESS RITUALS: Set aside time for activities that nurture your peace of mind like meditation, yoga, deep breathing, or a mindful walk outdoors. Having at least 10 minutes of stillness can reset your mental space, and help release tension.
-
GIFT & GIVE: As stated earlier, acts of care don’t need to be big or expensive. You could send a message of encouragement to a friend, share your favorite book, curate a small self-care gift or mini gift box for a loved one. The greatest comfort often comes with the smallest gestures.
World Mental Health Day is significant to remind us that mental well-being is not a destination, but a daily practice of care and compassion, and every act of care creates a ripple of comfort.
